PHD Ready Made Wafer Down K Series trousers review

Last updated: 27-Dec-18

By Alice Morrison

I had often heard of the mythical down trouser, a piece of kit so magical that it could save you from freezing your ass-ets off at even the lowest temperatures, so imagine my delight when the opportunity to try out a pair in suitably chilly (-10ºC) conditions arose.

Features

  • PHD ‘K Series’: Ultimate warmth / weight performance
  • Insulation: PHD’s Unique 1000 fillpower down
  • Outer & Inner fabric Ultralight 10X
  • Stitch-through for lightness
  • Adjustable shock cord at waist
  • Lycra edging at ankles
  • Weight 130g
  • Down to 0degrees
  • RRP £258

I am a medium-large woman but wore a small which fitted fine. I used them in camp at night on the semi self sufficient Everest Trail Race. This is what I found.

Conclusion

I almost cried when I packaged these up to return them to PHD as they were absolutely brilliant and I could do with them where I live now in the Atlas Mountains. They may have to go on the Christmas list.

Simply put, they are very light and very warm and helped me to recover every night as I just wasn’t cold, even when I was down to my most depleted.
