Dean shares the full story on how he got into making running films after filming surfers in his home country of South Africa. And what a pleasure it was to meet him and to find out more about his life working as a film maker with Salomon Running TV.
Dean covers some of his experiences filming with Kilian Jornet and other famous runners, plus his top tips for those of you wanting to make your own running film. In Dean’s words “the story is the point of difference” and he allows the athlete to tell their story in a professional and engaging way. One of his top tips is to be able to shoot when you don’t really want to shoot.
Dean was on his way to Northern Patagonia at the time of the interview to do his next round of filming with American Alpine runner Dakota Jones. We’ve included the beautiful film he made about the trip below.
You can experience Dakota’s story, find out what happened when they got there and how Dakota became involved with the local running community. Patagonia is one of my favourite places in the world and I hope that when you see the scenery you’ll be blown away by the beauty of it. Enjoy!
For those of you that want to run in Patagonia we have a few ultramarathons to inspire you as shown below:
- Racing the Planet – Patagonia – Bariloche, Argentina on 12 November
- Patagonian International Marathon – Torres del Paine National Park, Chile on 9 September
Coming Soon…
Watch out for Part 2 of this feature where our Community Manager Luke Jarmey recently caught up with Dean (this time in Nepal) and probes for more insights and the latest on his running films.
Special Note: We apologise in advance for the quality of the sound in part of the video interview, due to the lack of a quiet spot at the Kendal Mountain festival.
