The final of the Skyrunner® World Series starts at 7.00 am on Friday from the Parc Natural del Cadí Moixeró in Baga, Spain. More than 2,700 athletes from 50 different countries will take part.
The main event is the Salomon Ultra Pirineu with over 110km to cover and 6,800m ascent. There is also the Nit Pirineu (5km, 860m ascent) which will kick off the weekend’s events with a vertical kilometre for young hopefuls. And Saturday sees the start of the Marató Pirineu (45 km, 2.400m ascent).
The majority of runners for the races are Spanish while Portugal and France, followed by Andorra and the United Kingdom, are also well represented.
The battle for the title in the Skyrunner® World Series will be decided in Bagà and this last event in the calendar counts for 20% more than the other races. Among the favourites are the current World Cup leader, Cristofer Clemente, Miguel Heras, Pau Capell, Cristobal Adell, Remigio Huamán, Toti Bes, Francesc Soler and Roger Viñas.
In the women’s category, there are three names to really keep your eye on: the Swede Ida Nilsson, the American Hillary Allen and the Spaniard Gemma Arenas.
