450 registrations are up for grabs for the 103km 2016 Ultra Sierra Nevada (D+5,900), which takes place on July 16th.
The Ultra Sierra Nevada is part of the Spain Ultra Cup, the country’s top ultra trail circuit, which includes another eight races. Considered to be among the toughest mountain races currently being organised, runners climb from 805m in the city of Granada to the 3,205-metre-high peak of Veleta before heading down to the finish line at 2,100 metres.
Runners depart at midnight from the magical streets at the foot of the Alhambra palace complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, before heading out to the mountains. More than 20km of this race are run above 2000 metres along the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, one of the highest trail running events in Europe.
Registration for the 62km distance option will open in February.
