A Western States 100 and UTMB qualifier in the south of Spain

Ultra Trail Sierra del Bandolero is located in the mountainous region of the Andalusia province of Cadiz, in the south of Spain. The Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park is a biosphere reserve since the late 1970s. Directly exposed to the weather fronts coming up the south Atlantic, it is a green and humid area with a rich variety of flora and fauna. At the same time, it preserves the warm temperatures expected of southern Europe.

Bandoleros were the local highwaymen of 18-19th centuries who would prey on their victims as they crossed the rugged mountains on their way to and from the coast.

Both distance categories, 151km and 73km, are mountainous and technical with total altitude gains and cut offs of 10,912m (40hours) and 6,142m (22hours), respectively.

Ultra Trail Sierra del Bandolero 150km is now a 2017 Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run qualifier for those finishing within 38 hours. Finishing this race also awards 4 points for Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc 2016.

The shorter version of 73km is also a UTMB qualifying race with 2 points.

Registration for both categories opens on November 1 2015 at 10pm Spanish time (GMT+1). Last year they sold out in less than 72 hours, this year organisers expect to sell out within the day.
