Pauline Walker and Fiona Rennie are the Scottish twins who are an absolute fixture on the ultra scene in Scotland, easily recognisable by the mini kilts they wear over their leggings. After over 50,000 miles training and another 5000 in competition, Pauline has just completed her 100th ultra.
The 55-year-old ran the Glen Ogle 33 ultra to complete her centenary race and her ninth ultra of the year. After the race she told Fiona Outdoors, “It has been a huge year – and a fantastic way to finish my 100th ultra. I could never have known when I started this sport what I would go on to achieve.”
She ran her first race in 1994 and said that she only took up running in her mid-20s as a way to train for her main sport, karate, and improve her stamina. Fiona, her twin, also entered the sport inspired by her sister and is not far behind her with 70 ultras to her name.
Pauline is a multi-time winner and excels at the 24-hour discipline. She has represented Britain at the World and European championships four times and has also represented Scotland twice in 24-hour events in the Commonwealth Ultra Distance Championship. The first time was alongside her twin, Fiona, when they won the bronze. She won a further bronze in 2011.
Congratulations to Pauline!
