badwater

“What are you doing in July?” If you’ve been asked this question by an ultra runner there may be an ulterior motive! The Badwater 135 entrants for 2022 have just been drawn & the hunt will be on for those selected 100 of the worlds best ultra runners for the worlds best crew!

Last year I was Crew Chief for husband, Dion Leonard, alongside a stellar crew of Rob, Aaron & Joe as we crewed & paced him the 135 miles from 282 feet below sea level in the Badwater Basin of California’s Death Valley and ending at Whitney Portal, just below Mount Whitney. I say stellar crew, as with a rookie Badwater runner and a rookie Badwater crew, Dion got in as 6th overall in a phenomenal time of 30hrs! Brilliant 🤩

I took some time to put together a video of our experience, focussing entirely in the crewing aspect as I had found there wasn’t much information out there relating to the specificity of crewing this race.

Nothing compares to crewing this gruelling race as you are the runners lifeline the entire way. Check it out if you’re interested & reach out if you have any questions.
