Guide to our RunUltra Instagrammer Awards 2019

We’re excited to find out who you think is the best Instagrammer about long distance and ultra running.

We’ve started the ball rolling with a list but we want to hear your views.

Here’s the full guide to the launch of our RunUltra Award 2019 with our most frequently asked questions.

We encourage everyone to use the hashtag #RunUltraAward to spread the word about the award.

We’ll be issuing a special voting logo to those Instagrammers shortlisted on Saturday December 1st 2018, to help them to get as many votes as possible.

All voters sharing their details on the voting page between December 1st 2018 and January 13th 2019 also have the chance to win a Suunto 9 sports watch worth £435 (565 USD, 491 EUR), as pictured below.

Fri 12th October 2018 Launch of RunUltra Instagrammer Award 2019 Contest.
    
Midnight Sun 25th November 2018 Deadline for all nominations on the launch page.

Sat 1st December 2018 Announce shortlist of Instagrammers for overall award and for each region and voting begins. 

Midnight Sun 13th January 2019 Deadline for voting for the Instagrammer shortlist.

Weds 16th January 2019 Announce winner of the award for each category:

  • Overall Winner
  • Finalists (up to 6)
  • Regional Winners (up to 7)
  • Regional Finalists (up to 7)
  • UK, Europe, N America, S America & Caribbean, Asia & Pacific, Middle East, Africa  

    Total of 21 possible awards.

FAQs

Q.  Can you nominate more than one Instagrammer?
A.  Yes, you can nominate more than one Instagrammer page

Q. How do I nominate myself or an Instagrammer?
A. Go to our Instagrammer list and add a comment to suggest the name and url of an Instagram page. (Please log in or register first.)

Q. What type of Instagram page would qualify to be nominated?
A. To qualify the Instagram page should be about long distance running: i.e. an ultra, any long distance race, sky running, trail race, marathon, training experience, nutrition, interesting story, top 10 list, interview, piece of advice, interview, race reviews etc.

Q. How many times can I vote from the shortlist?
A. You can vote once for an Instagrammer.

Q. Do you have to be a resident of the specific region for the regional award?
A. We recognise that Instagrammers can live anywhere so your country of residence does not matter, but the regional content of the blog will determine if it qualifies.

Q. How will the final winner be chosen?
A. Our members will be the ones to choose our winners, so this is your chance to have your say and to use your member vote.

Q. Does the Instagram page have to be in English?
A. No the Instagram page does not have to be in English. We support the translation of our website into 100 languages and it’s you who will choose our global winner, so it can be in any of the languages supported by Google Translate.

Global - Virtual

Elevation

A virtual race which can be run at any time shown on the dates shown, on any type of terrain in any country.

Suitable for

For runners from beginners to experienced as you choose your own course and challenge based on the guidelines and options set by the virtual race organiser.

Endurance - Multi-activity

Elevation

An ultra distance race including at least two of the following activities such as running, swimming, cycling, kayaking, skiing and climbing. It may also include different climatic conditions (eg ice, snow, humidity, cold water, mud or heat).

Suitable for

Experienced multi-skilled athletes who have trained for the different activities included in this event. Admission to these races may be subject to receipt of a recent medical examination certificate. Check with the race organiser regarding entry requirements and any specialist equipment required such as a wetsuit, skis or a mountain bike.

Brutal

Elevation

Increase of up to 2000 metres with very challenging climatic conditions (e.g. ice, snow, humidity, heat or at high altitude)

Suitable for

Very experienced long distance ultra runners (min 3 years’ experience) or are doing regular long distance running (>50 miles) with elevation and conditions shown (where possible). Admission to these races is often subject to receipt of a recent medical examination certificate. Purchase of specialist kit is often recommended for these races.

Expert

Elevation

Increase of up to 2000 metres with some challenging climatic conditions (e.g. ice, snow, humidity or heat)

Suitable for

Experienced runners who have completed at least 4 ultras in last 12 months, or are doing regular long distance running (>50 miles) with elevation and conditions shown (where possible). Admission to these races may be subject to receipt of a recent medical examination certificate. Check with the race organiser regarding entry requirements.

Advanced

Elevation

Increase of up to 1500 metres

Suitable for

Runners who have completed several ultra distances or similar events, or are doing long distance running regularly, with elevation shown.

Intermediate

Elevation

Increase of up to 1000 metres

Suitable for

Runners who have completed at least one ultra in last 6 months or are doing long distance running (>26 miles) regularly, with elevation shown.

Beginner

Elevation

Very little change < 500 metres

Suitable for

First ultra event. Runners completing a marathon or doing regular long distance running (>26 miles) in the last 6 months.
