We may be in the midst of UTMB madness but it is always great to hear about new books/films out. This one is a corker.
It stars Joe ‘Stringbean’ McConaughy who glided to fame in 2017 for smashing the fastest known time ever recorded on the Appalachian Trail (LINK – REI) in 45 days, 12 hrs and 15mins.
He’s now a Columbia runner and they supported him this year to attempt to break a 9-year standing record for the Irish Wicklow Round (26 summits, 100+km, 6,000+ elevation) held by fellow Columbia endurance athlete Eoin Keith.
The time to beat was 17h 53m 45s.
The good news is that they made a documentary about it which you can watch here.
Did he do it? Shame on you for asking, RunUltra is not about the spoilers. Check it out and enjoy.
“A love of distance and pain is what really separates an ultra runner from a distance runner. You have to accept the wins and the losses. And hope that your best is good enough.” – Joe McConaughy
