What a race! Dylan Bowman summed it up, tweeting after the finish, “Wow, I’m so happy to have been part of the closest race for the podium in UTMB history! These guys got my absolute best and I’m honored to have done battle with them.”
And a battle it was.
TDS: Sur les Traces des Ducs de Savoie is 121 km with +7,300 m. The finish times tell the story of what was a constant and titanic fight between the three male podium finishers.
They finished within 1 minute and 43 seconds of each other and if you consider that is over 121km with 7,300m of sheer up, it gives testament to the guts and effort shown by the runners.
In the end, Poland’s Marcin Świerc won in 13:24:00. The USA’s Dylan Bowman finished 2nd just 62 seconds later and Dmitry Mityaev of Russia came third only 41 seconds after that. Marcin literally leapt with joy over the finish line clutching a Polish flag.
For the women, it may not have been so perilously close but it was a great win for Audrey Tanguy of France with 16:05:22. Rory Bosio from the USA was second with 16:19:36 and Caroline Benoit made it a double place for France on the podium with third at 17:18:02.
