Unstoppable Kilian wins again

With UTMB on the horizon, Kilian has shown the form he is in by winning the Kima Trophy and setting a new record with 6:09:19. The Kima Trophy is considered a highly technical race and takes place every two years in Val Masino in Italy. It consists of 52km and 4,200m of positive ascent.

Alexis Sévennec (6:11:59) and Pere Aurell (6:20:50) took second and third positions.

I am very satisfied with the victory and the record, it is a race that I like a lot because it is technical and long and the duel from the beginning with Sévennec has been very nice“, said  Jornet after the race.

This was the fourth time he has taken the title and he just snatched Nepali Bhim Gurung’s record which had stood at 6:10:44. The race is known for its glacial moraines, sharp and exposed ridges, steep trails, stony ground and snowy slopes. It has fixed ropes at several key points.

Kilian had a great opponent in Alexis Sévennec, with whom he shared first position until 37km at the Passo Barbacane. “After being the whole race with Sévennec, on the last climb I pushed a little and on the long downhill I was controlling the distance“, said Jornet.

In this end of summer I’m trying to try different distances on different surfaces to see that everything works well after the injury,” he said.
