Fernanda Maciel of Brazil has broken the women’s record for the fastest ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. She ascended and descended the 5,895-metre peak in 10 hours and 6 minutes.
This smashed Anne-Marie Flammersfeld’s previous record of 12 hours 58 minutes.
She followed the route from the Umbwe Gate to the summit and then down to the Mweka Gate. She ran in support of the Kilimanjaro Orphanage Centre, raising funds but also visiting and taking over supplies and raising awareness.
Last year, Fernanda became the first woman to run up and down Aconcagua in 22 hours 52 minutes. Her film charting her remarkable feat is available here.
She has also completed the Everest Trail Race. She was the third fastest women at the 2017 Marathon des Sables edition.
