Guide to our #RunUltraRace Awards 2017

We’re excited to find out who you think organises the best ultra event. 

Here’s a full guide to the launch of our #RunUltraRace Award 2017*.

Our overall event winner will receive three months of marketing from RunUltra so start nominating below now.

We encourage everyone to use the hashtag #RunUltraRace to spread the word and we’ll be issuing a special voting logo to all those who are shortlisted to help them to get as many votes as possible.

To nominate a race please use the comments section below to list the name and web address URL of your chosen race. Or alternatively you can nominate an ultra race for the awards on our Facebook Page.

Key Dates 2017

  • Wednesday 26 April. Launch of #RunUltraRace Awards 2017.
  • Thursday 1 June. Deadline for all nominations on this page: 23.59 (GMT)
  • Tuesday 8 June. Announce shortlist of ultra events for overall award and for each region and voting begins.
  • Friday 7 July. Deadline for voting for the Race Awards : 23.59 (GMT)

FAQs

Q.  Can you nominate more than one race?
A.  Yes, you can nominate more than one race.

Q. How do I nominate a race?
A.  Add a comment below to suggest the full name and url of a race or you can nominate a race on Facebook.

Q. What type of race would qualify to be nominated?
A. To qualify the event should be more than 42.195 kilometres (26.219 miles).

Q. How many times can I vote from the shortlist?
A. You can vote once for the overall winner and a race for each regional and race type award. (e.g. multi stage, single stage, 50 km, 50mile, 100 km, 100mile)

Q. How will the final winner be chosen?
A. The shortlist will be based on the number of event nominations received for each event and on the overall runner review ratings for races. You will then be the one to choose our winners from the shortlist so this is your chance to have your say and to use your vote.

Q. Does the event website/page have to be in English?
A. No, the event website does not have to be in English. We support the translation of our website into 100 languages and it’s you who will choose our global winner so it can be a site in any of the languages supported by Google Translate.

Terms and conditions for entry into the #RunUltraRace Award 2017

  1. Three months of advertising from RunUltra will be offered to the overall winner of the #RunUltraRace Award.
  2. Nominations are open to all those aged 18 or over. You can vote once for one event for each category.
  3. All nominations must be made by adding your suggested event/race name with URL to the comments section below or on our Facebook page before midnight (23:59) GMT on Thursday 1 June 2017.
  4. We cannot accept responsibility for late entries. 
  5. The shortlist will be announced on Thursday 6 June 2017 on RunUltra’s Facebook, Twitter and Google+ pages. The name of those events shortlisted will also be announced in a RunUltra email newsletter. 
  6. The names of the organisers for those events shortlisted will also be contacted by RunUltra via email and/or by social media to let them know.
  7. Voting on the short list will start on Thursday 6 June 2017 and all votes must be cast by midnight (23:59) GMT on Friday 7 July 2017.
  8. The winner of the Overall #RunUltraRace Award 2017 and winners for each regional category will be notified by email within 14 days of the closing date and will be announced on our website, on our social channels and by newsletter. 
  9. RunUltra reserves the right to provide an alternative prize of similar value should the specified prize become unavailable for any reason.
  10. The prize winner is solely responsible for declaring details of any award provided under the promotion to HMRC and any other local tax authority and for paying any tax liability which may arise.
  11. RunUltra reserves the right to cancel or amend the terms of this promotion and without notice in the unlikely event of a major catastrophe, war, earthquake or any actual, anticipated or alleged breach of any applicable law or regulation or any similar event.
  12. By participating in this promotion, the prize winner grants RunUltra permission to use their names and likeness for advertising and future promotional purposes without additional compensation (except where prohibited).
  13. RunUltra reserves the right not to award a prize for a region if it is deemed there are not enough entries to make an award.

Terms and conditions of RunUltra Prize Draw Contest – your chance to win 2 running outfits from Ripl

  1. A male or female running kit will be offered to 2 lucky winners. 
  2. This contest is open to all those aged 18 or over, except employees of RunUltra.
  3. All entries must be made by voting for a race on this page before midnight (23:59) GMT on Friday 7th July 2017. Please note that voting is now finished and our winners are announced here.
  4. The winners will be drawn and announced on Tuesday 11th July 2017 on RunUltra’s Facebook, Twitter and Google+ pages.
  5. We cannot accept responsibility for late entries. Entry cannot be accepted if the entrant’s name and email are not provided.
  6. The winner will be notified by email within 14 days of the closing date. If the prize is unclaimed by the initial winner drawn within 10 days, there will be one redraw. If that winner does not claim the prize, no further draws will take place.

Global - Virtual

Elevation

A virtual race which can be run at any time shown on the dates shown, on any type of terrain in any country.

Suitable for

For runners from beginners to experienced as you choose your own course and challenge based on the guidelines and options set by the virtual race organiser.

Endurance - Multi-activity

Elevation

An ultra distance race including at least two of the following activities such as running, swimming, cycling, kayaking, skiing and climbing. It may also include different climatic conditions (eg ice, snow, humidity, cold water, mud or heat).

Suitable for

Experienced multi-skilled athletes who have trained for the different activities included in this event. Admission to these races may be subject to receipt of a recent medical examination certificate. Check with the race organiser regarding entry requirements and any specialist equipment required such as a wetsuit, skis or a mountain bike.

Brutal

Elevation

Increase of up to 2000 metres with very challenging climatic conditions (e.g. ice, snow, humidity, heat or at high altitude)

Suitable for

Very experienced long distance ultra runners (min 3 years’ experience) or are doing regular long distance running (>50 miles) with elevation and conditions shown (where possible). Admission to these races is often subject to receipt of a recent medical examination certificate. Purchase of specialist kit is often recommended for these races.

Expert

Elevation

Increase of up to 2000 metres with some challenging climatic conditions (e.g. ice, snow, humidity or heat)

Suitable for

Experienced runners who have completed at least 4 ultras in last 12 months, or are doing regular long distance running (>50 miles) with elevation and conditions shown (where possible). Admission to these races may be subject to receipt of a recent medical examination certificate. Check with the race organiser regarding entry requirements.

Advanced

Elevation

Increase of up to 1500 metres

Suitable for

Runners who have completed several ultra distances or similar events, or are doing long distance running regularly, with elevation shown.

Intermediate

Elevation

Increase of up to 1000 metres

Suitable for

Runners who have completed at least one ultra in last 6 months or are doing long distance running (>26 miles) regularly, with elevation shown.

Beginner

Elevation

Very little change < 500 metres

Suitable for

First ultra event. Runners completing a marathon or doing regular long distance running (>26 miles) in the last 6 months.
