Capell and Laczak win Transgrancanaria

By Alice Morrison

It was touch and go as to whether Transgrancanaria would even take place this weekend with dire weather forecasts causing the organisers extreme stress. But go ahead it did, with a few minor tweaks.

Pau Capell successfully defended his title in what the organisers call the “star” race (the 125km) for the men and Magda Laczak took it for the women.

A big shout out also to Peter Kienzl and the ever-popular Annemarie Gross, who finished the ‘monster’ (265km) in 46:35:57 and 67:04:42 respectively to claim those wins.

First organised in 2003, the Transgrancanaria takes place – as its name suggests – on the island of Gran Canaria in Spain and is a one-stager that is now firmly established in the international ultra running scene.

It includes a variety of distances for all levels of running experience, including: marathon, 65km, 128km, and 265km. This year 4130 runners took part from 72 different countries.
